If you think that playing drums merely involve banging the drum every now and then, think again. Playing the drums is not as easy as it looks TV and during concerts. Always remember that playing the drums require timing and skills on your part. Learning these skills will take a lot of time and practice. In fact, many accomplished drummers such as those who are playing in the drums and bugle corps spent hundreds of hours practicing their drumming skills before they were able to perfect their playing. To learn to play the drums perfectly, it would be a good idea for you to take drum lessons.

The Compliment Sandwich Drummer
Adam Silverman : adamdrums: Drum Blog25 Apr 2012 | 5:31 pmSo we’ve all heard about this thing called the compliment sandwich. For a drummer it typically sounds something like this… “man that fill sounds awesome, do you think you can try something else there?” followed by the “man, that’s awesome” comment. haha. That’s what I like to the call the compliment sandwich. Oddly enough, it’s a rather effective tool that producers and band leaders make good use of. I do the same thing with my website development company. Man, I love that design, but can we add a header here? That’s perfect. Great… -

Diablo 3!
DrumChat.com - Drummer Forum / DRUM FORUM for Drums16 May 2012 | 1:18 pmWhat are your thoughts on the game? Do you own it? Do you want it? I personally love it. I bought it at midnight release. But, since Diablo is a Blizzard game and they are ran in California.. I, being East Coast, had to wait until 3am. And, since Blizzard games are ALWAYS backed up and take longer than usual. A friend and I started playing at 5am when it finally went live for us (with only 2 hours of sleep!!!) We played it for ABOUTTTT 9 hours and beat the entire campaign, downing Diablo, on normal difficulty. I know what you're all thinking.. "Do you have a life..?" No. Haha! but…

Bass Drum Creep
27 Apr 2012 | 4:07 amHere is an additional little trick that will END bass drum creep problems. Take a three foot long 2”x4” piece of wood. I have some nice fabric glued around it to make it look pretty, provide some protection to the drums, and prevent splinters. Now mark your carpet where you want the front of your bass drum to sit. Drill three quarter inch diameter holes through the wood – one hole in the middle and one near each end. Using some nice, big, 2 inch washers and 1/4 inch thick bolts – actually bolt the wood to your carpet at the front edge of your bass drum. Make sure to put the flattest… -

Drum Tips – Dealing with Bass Drum “Creep”
27 Mar 2012 | 4:07 amBass drum creep does NOT refer to the scary guy with the bass drum, it’s the term used to describe the frustrating situation when your kick drum starts sliding further and further away from you with each stroke of your bass drum pedal. Setting up your kit on a good thick rug or a carpet that the spikes at the end of your bass drum legs can sink their teeth into will generally help keep bass drum creep at bay. (If your bass drum legs don’t have spikes, replace them with ones that do. Any decent drum shop will carry replacement bass drum legs at a reasonable price.) Make sure your… -

The Truth About Networking
12 Apr 2012 | 9:35 pmOnce again I’ve got another topic thanks to a lot of email questions I’ve been receiving lately. So the latest question is… “now that we realize how important networking is in Nashville, how do you do it?” That is such an excellent question, and one day when I have an answer I’ll finish this post. The truth about networking and the music business is that there is no formula, there is no way to know what one person is looking for as opposed to another, it’s a game of educated guessing. But hey, you have to start somewhere, so let me give you guys a few… -
10 Years Ago
27 Mar 2012 | 8:18 pm10 years ago – wow – went by fast… I was recently asked in a little interview that I was doing for my college what I was doing 10 years ago. As I was reminiscing about where I’ve come from as a musician it really reminded me of where I’ve been, and how important that’s been to my career development. 10 years ago I was playing for a rocking band in Westminster, MD called Kill Patrick. Kill Patrick was a four piece band. Steve Boughan on bass and Vocals, Steve Bohli on bass and vocals, Eric Thomas on guitars, and me on drums. 10 years ago we were rocking bars… -
Confessions
11 Mar 2012 | 9:37 pmBob Wiley To quote Bob Wiley in the movie “What About Bob?” – “the simplest way to put it… I have problems.” haha. I laugh every single time that I think about that movie, but in some really strange way I can completely relate to the character Bob in that movie. No – I’m not afraid of getting diseases in public – but the reality is that we all have fears, some of which are quite simple to conquer, others can be crippling and can stop us from doing the things that we have been given the talents to do. I think many of you would be shocked to… -
Remove the Word “Can’t”
9 Feb 2012 | 4:00 pmLately I’ve been learning more and more how destructive the word “can’t” can be in our vocabularies as musicians, or just as human beings with dreams and desires. The world tells us that we can’t constantly. We can’t look like this, we can’t be that talented, we can’t do what someone else has done, we can’t do something as well as someone else does… and so on. Those messages get pounded into our minds constantly especially when you’re a musician. You feel like your personality is tied up in your talents, and it’s easy to…

Trick Drums – Steam Punk Drumset
23 Jan 2012 | 9:15 amThis “Steam Punk” Drumset was not meant to be a standard drumset but more of a piece of art. Well, we’re impressed regardless! It’s got a motor in it to turn the mounted blade and a real steam-generating engine! -

Me and my Rogers gig'n for the first time in 37 years
16 May 2012 | 10:52 amThis Saturday, Me and my Blue Sparkle Rogers are playing in public for the first time in 37 years. It has been that long since my last gig. Parenthood, 21 years of military service, and plain old supporting the family has kept me and my Sparkly Blue babies in my drum room practicing for the day we could come out and play. I can't wait. The coolest thing about it is I get to play with my son who was born just a few months after my last gig. I hope this is the start of many more gigs.:dancing: -

iPad apps
15 May 2012 | 2:05 pmNow that I have access to an iPad -- it's my wife's, but I don't seem to have qualms about helping myself to it, much to her dismay :shifty: -- I'm trying to find the best drum and recording related apps. So far, all I've picked up is Garage Band. Anyone have any other suggestions? If so, tell us a little something about it -- especially why you like it, what it can do, whether it's free, etc. BTW, I'm especially looking for an app that would make it easy to record with an e-kit (like my Roland TD-4K). Thanks for taking the time to respond!
